Frequently asked questions

Good questions lead to clearer books.

Start here for straightforward answers about our bookkeeping process and services.

Are you a CPA?

No, and for monthly bookkeeping you do not need one. A bookkeeper records and reconciles what happened in the business. A CPA files your return and helps plan your tax position. I keep the books clean so your CPA can spend time on strategy instead of cleanup. If you do not have a CPA, I can introduce you to a few.

How far behind can I be?

It does not matter. Three months or three years, we can rebuild it. Catch-up work is quoted after a free look at your current files, so you know the projected cost before we start.

Do I have to switch software?

Only if what you are using is actively hurting you. I work in QuickBooks Online. If you are currently using spreadsheets, we can discuss moving you to QuickBooks Online and what the migration will require.

What do you need from me every month?

Read-only access to your bookkeeping accounts and a simple way to send receipts, which for most clients can be a photo taken on their phone. After setup, the monthly process is designed to take very little of your time.

Is my financial information secure?

Bank connections are read-only, so bookkeeping access can view transactions but cannot move money. Documents are shared through a secure method rather than ordinary email attachments, and access is removed when an engagement ends.

What if I only need help once?

That happens. Cleanup and catch-up can be a one-time project with no ongoing commitment. Many clients choose monthly service afterward, but there is no requirement to do so.

Do you work with businesses outside Maryland?

Yes. Everything, including the first meeting, can happen remotely, and clients can be located in other states. Maryland businesses are also welcome to schedule a remote consultation.
